Resumo
The safe and fast yeast identification is of furthermost importance in fungai
infections. The identification of 30 yeasts ( 20 of the Cândida and 10 of the
Cryptococcus genus) was carried out by the conventional methods and by the
MicroScan Rapid Yeast Identification Panei (RYI). Identification was
obtained after 20 days by means of the conventional techniques, while results
were obtained in 4 hours with the RYI. The comparison of the 2 methods
showed a 100% and 95,2% agrcement to C. neoformans and Cândida,
respectively. Different results werc observed with only one yeast, which was
identified as C guilliermondii by the conventional methods and as Torulopsis
cândida by the RYI. Results show that the automated method is an excellent
option for the identification of clinically relevant yeasts.
