Aspectos epidemiológicos e ocorrência de fixação dorsal de patela em bovinos

Resumo

Dorsal patellar fixation is a syndrome observed in large animals, occurring in cattle uni or bilaterally, on both sexes and of several breeds and age. The scope of this study was to evaluate the occurrence and potential risk factors related to the condition in cattle submitted to distinct management. The study took place in 30 cattle raising farms from January/1998 to August/2002, where there were 41 affected animals. A questionnaire was employed, collecting data such as: animal description, lactating and or pregnancy stages, degree of genetic relation, soil quality and topography. Corporal scores were established considering physical condition and several characteristics of the animals. Fifty-six percent of crossbred animals were found, from five to nine years suffering from the condition, with greater occurrence in females from two to three years and males during mating season. The condition had greater evidence in animals of poor body score, lactating, pregnant, and during the dry season. Episodes of spontaneous recovery occurred during the rainy season. It was observed that 76,6% of the affected animals were on cerrado (savannalike) pasture and 23,4% were on pasture of more fertile soils. The findings of this study suggest that several risk factors could contribute or be associated to the triggering off dorsal patellar fixation in cattle.
