Thirty-two dogs of different breeds of pendulum
ears or not, male and female, were submitted to drainage
of aural hematoma by removing circular fragments of 5 mm
diameter skin. The ear cartilage was approximate to the skin
with separate simple points and nylon 000. In the post-chirurgical
period (PO) the dogs were kept with Elizabethan collar and ear
bandage in a high position over the head for six days. After
removal of the protective collar, the ears were kept upright
anatomically built for 15 days, through a metal frame. Topic
treatments were performed daily and removal of points was on
the 10th day of PO. On 7th day of PO it was noted a slight
uniform swelling, weep, crusts and thick skin; on 15th day a
reducing of the skin thickness was observed and wounds were
covered with connective tissue. Between the 30 and 60 days of
the PO, circular areas were whitish in color with a slight
contraction of the pinnal. The method facilitated the drainage of
the hematoma with good adhesion between skin and cartilage
and prevented the accumulation of exudates in the PO period.
This method could be applied to correction of aural hematomas
of dogs with pendulum and upright ears.
