Resumo
This experiment investigated the vertebral formula of an adult male of jacaré-açu
(Melanosuchus niger), belonging of the laboratory of animal anatomy of the Federal
University of Tocantins. The vertebrae were chemically macerated and were counted
manually by vertebral segment (cervical, thoracic, lumbar, sacral and caudal), also was
measured using a tape measure in millimeters the length of the spine and body length
longitudinal of the reptile. It was concluded that the animal has 07 cervical vertebrae as
in mammals, 11 thoracic vertebrae, 06 lumbar, 02 sacral, as in other reptiles and caudal
spinal segment consists of 26 vertebrae was the greatest and most vertebrae.
