Resumo
Studies about the use of nonverbal communication in chemistry class. The classroom is not just a set of tables, chairs, blackboard and chalk. Here
the relationships and actions between teachers and students become effective. The classrooms are spaces of communication where words and not words (silences,
absences, or not articulated sounds) guide the relationships between individuals and allow a constellation of messages that are captured consciously or
unconsciously. This is a qualitative research that examines the role attributed by chemistry teachers to body language in the process of communicating scientific
knowledge in the classroom. The data collection instrument used was a semi-structured interview. Our results indicate that the use of nonverbal communication,
body language specifically (look, gestures, posture) in chemistry class is tool mediated action and that the teacher is fully involved in communicative action,
and has power to influence the object and product of its interpretation.
