Ethnobotanical study of medicinal plants may be an interesting analysis tool for gender
relations in agriculture. This work was developed with the community of Jataí-GO, as part of a project
which aimed to rescue the folk knowledge about uses of medicinal plants in this region and targeted to
design the profile and the contribution of men and women in activities related to knowledge and use of
these plants. Research-administered surveys were established using different sampling methods from
interviewees (“Snow Ball” and “random”). Data were submitted to descriptive and correlation statistical
analysis, searching the relationship among interviewees knowledge degree about medicinal plants and
its sex, age and scholarity degree. The results obtained revealed a strong cultural conservadorism in
local community, based in patriarchal values, but suggest a higher female participation tendency.
