Resumo

This study aims to understand how playing happens in non-formal early childhood education and to identify how playing in these educational spaces influences the development of children, considering that in the act of playing, the child relates to the world and to itself, building their playful culture, contributing directly to their development, non-formal teaching spaces enable play, exploring their imagination and skills, which contributes to social, psychological and physical development, thus, non-formal spaces are complementary to formal spaces of teaching, but with a different perspective. Methodology: to reflect on playing in non-formal early childhood education, the integrative literature review method was used, with the objective of systematically gathering and summarizing the scientific knowledge of the subject addressed here. The question that guided the research was ''how can playing in non-formal early childhood education contribute to the development of children?". The research was carried out in scientific journals in the area of ​​physical education and education. The selection of journals was made by qualis periodicals including national and international journals. After selecting the journals, articles were collected within the platforms, with the keywords: "play", "education", "non-formal", "children", "mediation" and "recreation". Then, the selection of articles took place following the steps: reading the title, reading the abstract, and finally reading the full text. Results: at the end of the research, 11 articles were included about playing in non-formal early childhood education and how it contributes to children's development. It was observed that playing in non-formal education contributes to the development of imagination, interaction, better fulfill the individual needs of each person, making their skills develop better, and the teacher's mediation is important because it is often differentiated from formal education environments, interferes directly in the teaching and learning of children, thus contributing to their development. Conclusion: playing in non-formal early childhood education contributes to the teaching and learning process of children and, consequently, is satisfactory for development.
