Some squash producers in lhe region of Goiânia (Brazil) prune lhe top of lhe main vine in order to increase and/or anticipate production by stimulating lateral branching. ln this triai, carried out at lhe 'Escola de Agronomia da Universidade Federal de Goiás', Goiânia, vine pruning was tested on lhe cv. 'Menina Brasileira'. Fruits were harvested twice a week, from november 17 to december 23 (1993). Significant differences between treatment and control were found neilher in number and weight of fruits nor in distribution of lhe yield over lhe harvest period. The pruned plants however were slightly earlier in production. This should be investigated wilh more accuracy.
