Doenças extra gástricas associadas à infecção por Helicobacter pylori: uma revisão integrativa

Resumo

Helicobacter pylori is a Gram-negative, microaerophilic, mobile, non-spore-forming bacterium capable of colonizing the gastric mucosa of humans. Infection by this microorganism causes gastric and extra gastric changes due to the chronic inflammatory process that can promote a systemic effect and cause disruption of the homeostasis of various organs and tissues, triggering various pathologies. The objective of this work was to carry out a bibliographic survey of non-gastric pathologies that are triggered by chronic infection by H. pylori, considering the pathophysiology and systemic effects on the host. For this, an integrative literature review, with a qualitative characteristic, was carried out in the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SCIELO), Academic Google, LilACS and NCBI PubMed databases. Articles published in Portuguese, Spanish and English from 2010 to 2020 that addressed the topic were included and the exclusion criteria were theses, monographs and dissertations, and articles that did not address the topic. Some groups of non-gastric diseases associated with H. pylori infection have been identified, including hematologic, neurological, hepatobiliary, respiratory, vascular, allergic, neoplastic, metabolic, ocular, oral, and autoimmune diseases. The systemic effect of H. pylori infection, where several cytokines and chemical mediars are released, causes changes and homeostatic imbalances in different tissues and extra gastric organs of the body, and often an exacerbated immune response occurs. Despite not being a consensus among the studies researched, it was found that H. pylori infection may be associated with the emergence and progression of these different pathologies.
