Resumo
The search for enteric viruses can be used as a possibility to assess the sanitary quality of
raw sewage and treated effluent. Thus, the objective of the present work is to present the
amount of enteric virus in the raw and treated sewage of the Waste Water Treatment Plant
(WWTP) of Goiânia city (Goiás, Brazil) and compare it with literature data. For this purpose,
two samples of raw sewage and two samples of treated sewage were collected, at 8 am
and at 11 am, the lowest and highest flow times of this ETE, respectively. Then, they were
subjected to quantitative analysis of group A Rotavirus, Adenovirus serotype 5 (Species C)
and Enterovirus, through molecular tests. As a result, comparing raw sewage vs treated
sewage, an average of 0.87 x 107 GC/L vs. 1.15 x 107 GC/L was obtained for Rotavirus;
Adenovirus = 2.15 x 107 GC/L vs. 2.45 x 107 GC/L and Enterovirus = 0.53 x 107 GC/L vs.
1.4 x 107 GC/L. It was concluded that the quantities of genomic copies found were
compatible with the literature data and the current process of that WWTP did not show
efficiency in removing the studied viruses.
