Resumo
The occurrence of infective agents of animal or human parasites was studied
in public localities of Goiânia, a city in the Central-East of Brazil. Fourteen
public localities were examined, among them public places (7), soccer fields
(3), parks (2) and jogging paths (2). One sample of feces and one of soil were
collected weekly between April and June 1999 and analyzed with the
spontaneous sedimentation method (Hoffmann et ai., 1934), fluctuation
method (Willis, 1921) and the method of larvae detection (Rugai et ai.,
1954). A total of 121 feces and 121 soil samples were analyzed. In 85.7% of
the localities, oocysts, eggs or larvae of one or more parasites were detected.
A higher number of eggs of helminths (33.9%) were found in feces compared to soil (5.8%). Eggs and larvae of hookworms were found in 26.5% of the
feces samples and only 4.1% of The samples were positive for Toxocara sp
A!l samples which were positive for Ancylostomatidae contained eggs and
18.8% also had larvae. Moreover, in the feces were dctectcd oocysts of
Isospora sp (3.3%), eggs of Platynosomitm sp (1.7%), egg capsules of
Dipylidmm caninum (1.7%) and eggs of Physaloptera praepulialis (0.8%).
Regarding the soil samples, 2.5% were found with eggs of hookworms and
l .7% with eggs of Toxocara sp Eggs of Ascaris sp or Platynosomum sp were
confírmed in 0.8% of the soil samples. Results emphasize that there is a risk
for humans to get infected with parasites when visiting public localities with
elevated Índices of contamination in Goiânia.
