Abstract

The objective of this study was to analyze the concept and clinical validation of Impaired Communication family. Held up the steps advocated by Walker and Avant (2010) which are concept selection, determination of goals and proposals for conceptual analysis, identification of possible uses of the concept, determining the defining attributes, case identification model, identification of additional cases - must submit invented cases and / or illegitimate, that are similar (additional cases) or opposite (contrary cases) analyzed the concept, identify the antecedents and consequences of the concept and definition of empirical references. Some steps of the concept Analysis Model equivalent and occur simultaneously to Integrative Review of Literature steps such as: Concept selection, determination of the objectives of conceptual analysis and identification of possible uses of the concept. The integrative literature review followed the proposal of Hoskins. The Pubmed database and portal Capes were consulted, using the descriptors: family communication, and synonyms in the English and Spanish languages. They identified 372 articles on the CAPES periodical portal and 7804 in the PubMed. After applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 35 articles were selected. They identified 27 attributes, 50 backgrounds and 54 resulting from Impaired Verbal Communication in the Family. Is prepared from the attributes and history, a case model, a borderline case and otherwise. The concept of Communication Impaired family was developed to subsidy for their identification in clinical practice. In clinical validation convenience sample consisted of 50 families. Eight defining characteristics achieved ≥0.50 validation score that were no listening, little involvement of family members in conversation; low initiative or lack of engagement in the ideas, an opinion; lack of open discussion of controversial issues; hostility and aggression by family members; lack of emotional support (support), interruption or reduction of uni or bilateral communication flow and lack of expression of affection. 10 related factors have been validated by clinical research reaching escore≥0.50 that were little opening for various conversations; little acceptance of differences between family members; lack of skills to listen to opinions of others; lack of family flexibility to meet the demands of development and situational; lack or shortage of family rituals; lack of cohesion; unwillingness to communicate; difficulties in interpersonal relationships of the family; disorder \ mental disorder (schizophrenia, depression, anxiety or other family members who do not know specify the nature, although it is being treated); difficulty of a member or more family members to express feelings. With this research throw up the conceptual and clinical basis of the nursing diagnosis "Communication Impaired in the Family," defined as decreased or absent ability to use a system of symbols in the context of its internal structure and or external, which is capable of checking her share thoughts, ideas, feelings, opinions, rules and promote support and development of its members.
