Resumo

Scientific evidence has been demonstrating for some years that the reduction of Noncommunicable Chronic Diseases is associated with the intake of dietary fiber, which, through different mechanisms, provides protective effects on human health. This research aimed to evaluate the impact of a fiber formulation on anthropometric parameters, lipid profile and bowel frequency in adult women. A clinical trial was conducted with the participation of women who consumed a fiber formulation for 30 days. The fiber formulation developed had in its composition brown flaxseed flour, wheat bran, wheat germ, grape seed flour, psyllium and brewer's yeast, portioned at 100g/day. A centesimal analysis of the formulation was performed prior to the clinical trial. At the beginning of the study, the participants' food consumption was assessed, anthropometric assessment and lipid profile were performed on day 01 and day 30, and during the course of the research, the frequency of bowel movements and the type of feces were recorded. The total dietary fiber content of the formulation studied was 39.5 g/100 g, meeting the daily needs of an adult individual. After 30 days, it was possible to observe that there was no significant change in weight, BMI (Body Mass Index) and hip circumference. Regarding the lipid profile, a reduction in total cholesterol values was noted from the beginning to the end of the study (185.2 mg/dL to 170.9 mg/dL). 90.3% of the participants reported daily bowel movements, 34% of which were type 4 (considered normal/adequate consistency). The fiber complex was not able to cause changes in the anthropometric profile and showed a slight reduction in total cholesterol. The effects on intestinal motility were demonstrated, which may suggest the developed formulation as a potent dietary supplement in the prevention of constipation
