ItemCarcinoma peniano e papilomavírus humano (HPV): artigo de revisão(2009-04) Paula, Adriano Augusto Peclat de; Almeida Neto, Joaquim Caetano de; Carneiro, Megmar Aparecida dos SantosSince 1995, the International Agency of Research on Cancer (IARC) recognizes the human papillomaviruses (HPV) 16 and 18 as human carcinogens. Besides the involvement of HPV in cervix oncogenesis, it is accepted that this virus also participates of anal, penile, vulvar, laryngeal and scrotal carcinogenesis. Papers reporting large number of cases of penile carcinoma are rare, and even rarer are those reporting the association between penile carcinoma and HPV. This review aims to present data of HPV characterization, oncogenesis, epidemiology and the most updated data regarding this virus and penile carcinoma. We searched articles from PubMed, MedLine and Lilacs, using standardized Mesh terms for HPV and penile carcinoma, while establishing limits within the last ten years of publication, written in either Portuguese or English and describing the disease only in humans. We tried to correlate the occurrence and letality in cases w*th or without purpura signifícaní conclusions were as follow: 1 — Meningococcic meningitit purpura was mostly pound ia fcmata. 2 — Letality was mostíy JocreateJ in age grup O to l year and decretted in the age groups 5 to 10 and 10 to 15 years. Still to be confirmed we abo fomd the following indications: a) Meningococcic meningitis ie more common and severe, in tenas of letality, in males. b) Purpura didn't play a role of marked severíty in meningococcic noningitis because it ocurred mostly Ia females where letality rate was lower than in males. c) The oceurrence of purpura wotUd be increased in the age groups 5 to 10 years and 10 to 15 years and decreased in age groups O to 5 yean. ItemResultados preliminares com a associação da sulformetoxina à pirimetamina sob a forma injetável * no tratamento da malária por plasmodium falciparum(Ruy de Souza Lino Júnior, 1972-06) Almeida Neto, Joaquim Caetano de; Vasconcelos, Wanderlei Montenegro de PitalugaThe parenteral combination of sulfamethoxine + pyrimethamine was tested in 25 patients with malária due to P. falciparum Two dosage schedules were followed. One group of 14 oligosymptomatic patients with low paràsitemia received a single I.M. dose. The second group of eleven patients with severe clinicai manífestations and high parasitemia reçeived one daily intramuscular injection for two days. Blood smear controis revealed that in the first group the asexual forms disappeared between the 2nd 4th days after treatment in ali 14 patients. 10 patients of the second group showed negative blood smears between the 3rd and 6th days and one patient died. Two relapses occurred in the group and one was observed in, the second group during a control period of cure of 30 days. The patients remained hospitalizes during this time. It is concluded that the association of these two drugs when administered parenterally is well tolerated and highly effective for the treatment of severe forms of P. falciparum malária in which oral administration of drugs is often impracticable.
