Item De Iúlo aos Iulii: as gentes romanas e itálicas em busca do passado heroico(2016) Gonçalves, Ana Teresa Marques; Mota, Thiago Eustáquio AraújoIn this paper we intend to track the fabrication of Iulii’s heroic genealogy (family of Julius Caesar and Octavian Augustus) and its multiple and contextual appropriations by historical actors to then understand its accommodation to the Virgil’s epic architecture, the Aeneid. Rethink the origins of the gens and to seek a connection with the heroic past was a plausible solution for new branches that have appeared on the political scene boasting ancient gentile names and a way to turn this ancestral link into a distinct predicate, worthy to be remembered in the writings of all sorts, monuments and coins.Item Do Tártaro aos Vergéis Elíseos: a jornada do Descensus, os exempla e os espaços do Averno na Eneida de Virgílio(2011-12) Gonçalves, Ana Teresa Marques; Mota, Thiago Eustáquio AraujoFrom the study of Avernus’ imaginary geography and the proposition of descensus in Book VI, we’ll query the connections between memory, power and the realm of dead in Aeneid of Vergil. Aeneas in his journey through the kingdom of Pluto, guided by Sibyl, travels by different regions organized according to logic of power and moral patterns which together increase a spatial hierarchy, noticeable in narrative.
