Resumo
The Military Dictatorship (1964-1985) played a fundamental historical role in the current
hegemony of monopoly capital over Brazilian society. That role was to interrupt the anti-au-
thoritarian movement set in motion by the working classes and their political organizations at
the beginning of the 60s and to restore the bourgeois autocracy on updated foundations that
were appropriate for associated-dependent monopoly capital. As a result, 29 years after the
end of the generals’ regime, the class dictatorship of big capital persists, unfolding itself and
developing based on the legacy left by the Military Dictatorship.
