Ovariectomia em equídeos: comparação da viabilidade de três técnicas cirúrgicas e avaliação do pós-operatório

Resumo

Ovariectomy is indicated on mares for the treatment of ovarian pathologies and to avoid oestrous. The main objective of this study was to compare the viability of three surgical techniques for ovariectomy on equine as an alternative treatment for ovarian pathologies and oestrous prevention on females used on field duties, evaluating, consequently their postoperative period. The surgery was performed on 295 equine females, out of which 290 (98.30%) were healthy and tive (1.70%) bearing ovarian pathologies, divided into three groups. On group I the animais age was considered, on such age range it is not viable to approach the avaries by vaginal via. On this group the ovariectomy was performed through the right flank, on 77 animais. On G li, the surgical approach was dane through the flank, bilaterally on 120 animais, and, on G Ili, via vagina, on 98 females. On the post-operative (GI e GIi), flunixin meglumine, enrofloxacin and surgical wound bandages were employed. On GIII systemic penicillin was used. The surgical approach via flank resulted on· a higher amount of post-operative complication. Through the vaginal via, a higher number of death occurred. The ovariectomy did not avoid the manifestation of oestrous on ali of the animais. The final result suggests the surgical approach through the flank to be the most suitable technique for ovariectomy on mares.
