Resumo

This work is the product of searching to understand the bases of ideas of the supporters of military interventionism in Brazil. In this sense, it synthesizes the results of a qualitative research conducted in 2017, in Goiânia-GO, a year before Bolsonaro’s election. Data showed a chain of factors on the basis of support for militarism, such as fear, the adoption of fascist ideology, disbelief followed by the desire to destroy democracy and to erect another State, with contradictory liberal and nationalist characteristics, and participation in public opinion to gain space and discursive validity. These characteristics, combined, constituted a kind of right wing common sense, whose argumentative network oscillates between the nostalgia of the military dictatorship, seen as an orderly and secure period, and hatred of left wing ideology, rejected to such a point of its demonization.
