Resumo

This article addresses the biographical and intellectual trajectory of Lucien Goldmann, a major figure in what has become known as Western Marxism. It presents his political experimentations with the Romanian Jewish left during his youth in the 1920s, the period spent in Paris and Toulouse as a political refugee fleeing Romanian Fascism, as well as his imprisonment during the Vichy government. Lastly, the article offers an in-depth analysis of his studies on Kant in Switzerland and his subsequent formulation of an autonomous, Marxist-oriented theoretical project within French academia in the 1950s, which led to the publication of The Human Sciences and Philosophy in 1952.
