Resumo

This article presents an ethnographic analysis on the policies of dwelling among the Wapichana peoples according to specific modes of relations with places. It then discusses how these own forms of inhabiting started to relate to the territorial and environmental management agen da of indigenous lands in Brazil through the elaboration of a Territorial and Environmental Management Plan. By bringing it up, the objective is to highlight some translation di iculties in the intercultural communication. However, beyond semantic problems and despite of the fact that this management tool is a governmental one, I argue that, locally, “plans” are expressions of life projects and they bring with them a more complex interethnic message that translates into desires, expectations and political struggles in defense of their ways of life in face of contra dictory circumstances of the broader political scene.
