The Caryocar brasiliense specie is adapted to dry season of Brazilian Cerrado. However, little is known about the mechanisms used by these plants to survive to water stress. Therefore, aimed with this study, to evaluate the souari nut trees responses to irrigation and fertilization, monitoring of water depletion in soil and the leaf water potential relating to growth rate of plants. It was used 120 trees of souari nut trees (4-5,2 years), spaced at 5.0 x 5.0 m, measuring monthly, plant height and stem diameter. The potential for water on the leaves (Scholander Chamber) was obtained once the dry season and another in rainy season, and the soil moisture was measured weekly of 0.0 to 0.9 m (probe FDR model DIVINER 2000). The experiment was conducted in randomized blocks with 16 plants per block, where they were evaluated two treatments in a split plot (8 trees irrigated: 4 trees fertilized and 4 trees no fertilized, and 8 trees non-irrigated: 4 trees fertilized and 4 trees no fertilized) with six replications. While irrigation has provided greater soil moisture of 0.0 to 0.9 m, not observed significant differences in tree growth, while the leaf water potential was superior to non-irrigated plants. So, the souari nut tree, not respond in growth the supply of water and fertilization.
