Resumo
True Blood is an award winning American television series which premiered in 2008,
based on the collection of books The Southern Vampires Mysteries, written by Charlaine
Harris. In Brazil, it runs on the premium channel HBO and achieved success in a time
when vampires have been highly explored as a theme in Hollywood motion pictures. The
story is set in a small fictional town in Louisiana called Bon Temps. It features the
vampires' attempts at their “integration” into the American society after the invention of
a synthetic blood, after which the series was named. In this work, I consider how issues
of sexism, homophobia and racism appear in the first season of the series and are
related, directly or metaphorically, to the vampire's “coming out”.
