Resumo
The study of the morphometric characteristics of a river basin is important in understanding the dynamics of hydrological processes and in helping to manage and conserve water resources. This work aims to characterize the morphometry of the Rio Grande river basin, located in the West Region of the State of Bahia using the Qgis software. The database constitutes the Digital Elevation Model and shapefiles of IBGE. From the Qgis field calculator some parameters were calculated, the basin area found was 72,701.97 km² and the perimeter equal to 1430.593 km. The Rio Grande's basin has an elongated shape, compacity coefficient of 1.48, form factor of 0.29, circularity index of 0.13, sinuosity index of 1.31 and relief ratio of 0.012. The basin drainage density was considered regular (1.33 km km-2). According to the morphometric characteristics, the basin presents moderate susceptibility to flooding in its extension under normal precipitation conditions.
