Para além do verbal: a importância da imagem nos processos comunicacionais

Abstract

This text aims to highlight the importance of broadening of the concept of image to achieve a better understanding of what Communication entails. Based on a bibliographic review, we divided this article into three parts. In the first, we contextualize the main issues of the Field of Communication and the need to unravel Braga’s communication proposal. The second part, through two examples elucidated by Byung-Chul Han and Braga, will demonstrate that communication is not only anchored in the verbal, in the material or any specific medium, and thatisolating any single element of this circuit constitutes an epistemological impoverishment. Finally, in the third part, we explore Samain’s contributions to constructing an epistemology of Communication that emphasizes the image in the communication process. We conclude that this conceptual perspective on the image can enrich and enhance the understanding of what is specific to communication.
