Resumo
This article seeks to provide a methodological overview of qualitative ethnographic
research for the student who is beginning his/her research practice of the foreign language classroom.
The terms qualitative and ethnography are first conceptualized, followed by a detailed description and
discussion of the procedures and instruments used in this kind of study. Research by authors from the
field of ethnography is used as the theoretical basis for this article, which is distinguished by its emphasis
on the foreign language classroom as a site of ethnographic research practices.
