Resumo

The advent of the Internet made the journalistic production formats undergo adaptations and transformations to establish themselves in the digital environment. In this new reality, longform journalism must face challenges to reach the most present audience on the networks: Generation Z, a digital native used to a time of instantaneity and speed in information consumption. This research aims to understand the role of aesthetics in reading longform hypermedia reports on the web and whether it can be an important factor to arouse the interest of Generation Z. For this, a theoretical review of the concepts of aesthetics and webjournalistic narrative was carried out, and the news reports from the TAB Uol editions category were selected as the object of study. The methodology of the research was based on the triangulation of methods, being used for data collection the focus group for reading the reports with generation Z, an in-depth interview with the editor-in-chief of TAB Uol and direct observation of the researcher. From the data analysis it was possible to conclude that aesthetics plays an important role in the reading of the longform hypermedia news reportage by providing dynamism in the text and immersion of the reader in the content. However, the challenges for the journalist are in using the aesthetic elements in the service of usability, being essential to ensure consistency between content and form.
