Resumo

The range of the sex pheromone of Anocentor nitens, 2,6-diclorofenol (2,6-DCP), was evaluated in an olfactometer bioassay in order to get aid to use decoys of this pheromone to control this tick. Twenty sexually active males were release individually at 5 and 10 cm from control rubber septa and treated with 50, 500 and 5000 ng of 2,6-DCP, attractive females. At 5 cm distance the females were not attractive as the responses of orientation and displacement angles were similar to those observed to control rubber septa. In both distance, the highest performances were observed for the lowest concentrations of 2,6-DCP: percentages of orientation were higher; the males were less tested; the frequencies of angles between 0° and 10°, which indicate attraction, were higher. Similar time of orientation was observed to every 2,6-DCP concentration and higher than to female and to control rubber septa. These results show that 2,6-DCP at 50 to 500 ng concentration is a remarkable attractant for A. nitens and a potential candidate to be used in an attractant and kill strategy for control this tick.
