Resumo
This paper proposes a reading of the narratives Desmundo (1996), by Ana Miranda,
and Fragosas brenhas do mataréu (2013), by Ricardo Azevedo, from the monomyth concept postulated
by Joseph Campbell in The Hero with a Thousand Faces (1949). We have found that the studied texts
maintain a close dialogue from the graphic project up to the narrative construction and of the
protagonist characters that reveal a very similar hero’s journey, in agreement with Campbell’s view,
although the trajectory of the protagonist of Ana Miranda's narrative presents conflicts connected
to her female condition and an open outcome. We have concluded that the narratives present
stages in the hero’s journey, or monomyth, that vivify mythical contents leading to the protagonist’s
self-knowledge.
