Abstract

Dignified death is a theme that intersects ethical, legal, and social discussions, highlighting the right to autonomy over one’s own body and the end of life. In this context, the film The Room Next Door (2024), directed by Pedro Almodóvar, offers a profound and sensitive reflection on euthanasia. This article proposes to analyze how the criminalization of euthanasia can be influenced by gender issues, especially regarding women’s autonomy over their bodies. Therefore, it seeks to connect the representation of dignified death in Almodóvar’s film with contemporary debates on human rights and gender, proposing a critical reflection on the criminalization of euthanasia.
