Resumo
This text aims to describe an experience of exploring nature with preschool children in the kindergarten of an Early Childhood Education institution —Explorers in the Preschool's Secret Garden: Ants, Moths, and Many Plants. We conducted theoretical incursions mediated by a metamemory exercise that recalls a context of exploration through/in nature, developed with 5-year-old children in Goiânia, Goiás, Brazil, in 2022, based on the premises of the fields of Early Childhood Education and Science Education. By encouraging explorations in a garden, playing with a "scientist's magnifying glass," the children recognized animals and plants, and discussed life and death, thus constituting living and active knowledge for understanding the world.
