Resumo

In João Guimarães Rosa’s Roman Grande sertão: veredas, the River São Francisco has a magical meaning. It divides the world in the right blessed bank and the link one of those who have a pact with the Devil. In this geographical and simbolical space, the character Riobaldo crosses the hinterland seeking the knowledge of himself and the liberation of his soul. In his cross, he becomes aware of the power of his name: the one who has the energy of the river - symbol of the incessant changing on life -, who is able to determine his own Way.
