Resumo
Serum samples of 207 dairy cows were collected
between December 1997 and November 1998, in attempt
to estimate the prevalence of antibodies against the bovine
viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) in indigenous cattle. The sera
were tested by the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay
(ELISA) and by serum neutralization (SN). The prevalence
for BVDV was 47,83% as detected by ELISA or 52,17% by
the SN technique. There was no statistically significant
difference between the tests. Regarding the reactivity of
sera for both tests, the prevalence of antibodies was 54,11%
for the studied region.
