Resumo
Given the need for more sustainable cropping systems in this work is to evaluate changes in chemical properties
after cultivation of legumes and the effect on yield of cowpea and cassava in single or consortium cultivated in
agroforestry (SAF) in southern state of Tocantins. The study was conducted in a SAF in the experimental field of the
Federal University of Tocantins, Gurupi-TO. The experimental design was completely randomized design with four
treatments and a control in three replicates. The treatments were: areas with waste Crotalaria (CJ), corn (MI),
mucuna preta (MP), Crotalaria and pigeonpea (CJ + FG) and an area with natural vegetation and litter of teca
(VEG + TEC). For evaluations of soil chemical properties were performed two trials (01.11. 2009 and another
07.03.2010). To follow the decomposition of plant residues were used nylon bags, placed on the surface of the plots
over a period of 130 days. One can observe significant increases in the levels of potassium, magnesium and pH in
different residues. For root yield of cassava and green matter no difference among tillage systems, but on the
different waste materials. The cowpea had the highest yield when grown single.
