Resumo
In a theoretical framework in which language is understood as knowledge and as political action, linguistic normativity is considered as part of the society’s cultural regulatory tradition. In this discussion, we are concerned about the following questions <What are the reasons that lead to and maintain epistemic and linguistic obedience?> and <How do we promote cracks in linguistic normativity,based on sociocultural norms,of ideological basis?> Inspired by this problematization, the present discussion aims to show that language (including language as a system), conceived as political action, can be both a verifier and a generator of democracy. To support the problematization and to highlight the discussion of these questions, and to show how the liminal epistemologiescan promote stains and cracks in the rigid normativityof the Portuguese language, and at the same time,to showhow social obediencefaces and resists these investitures, we have decided to address “gender ideology”and, for that,we have selected a sociolinguistic problem: the relationship between social and linguistic manifestations of gender/sexuality, reflected in the grammatical expression of gender through the use of ‘@’in writing. The aim of the discussion is to reflect on the political action of sociolinguistic practices as a generatorand as a verifier of democratic principles.
