Mergulhando no gesto: percursos visuais entre a água, o espelho e a matéria

Abstract

This undergraduate thesis, developed within the Visual Arts program at the Federal University of Goiás (UFG), proposes a practical and theoretical investigation focused on painting, based on recurring elements in my artistic production: gesture, water, and the mirror. The research begins with artistic practice and the use of the artist’s notebook as a methodological tool, addressing the construction of the image through the materiality present in color, textures, overlays, transparencies, and opacities. The process reveals a shift from thematic concerns toward a more plastic investigation, centered on artistic practice and its transformations. The reflection focuses on gesture as thought in action, exploring chance, incompleteness, and sensory experience as constitutive parts of the artwork. To support this discussion, the theoretical framework relies mainly on authors Fayga Ostrower and Cecília Almeida Salles, whose approaches dialogue with the creative process and the materiality of art. Water and mirror, symbolic and material elements that traverse this journey, prove essential for the poetic and conceptual construction of this research.
