Resumo

By virtue of his pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca, the Muslim Ibn Jubayr (1145-1217) passed through various natural and social environments. In his travel account (riḥla), in constant dialogue with the Qur'an, the sacred book of Islam, Ibn Jubayr recordedin writing various fields of the realities that he lived. Among these records are his voyages through the sea, whose Mediterranean routes were obligatory for a pilgrim like himself, who left the city of Granada on his way to Mecca. In this article, we will analyze the testimony of Ibn Jubayr, with regard to maritime images, and the representations on the sea in the Qur'an in order to identify, from the intertextuality between the two texts, contents and aspects of a medieval Islamic imaginary.
