Resumo
The maternal history of a group of
women with a positive serologic test to T. cruzi (complement fixation test
and indirect immunofluorescence test)
and of 42 seronegatives women was studied,
in order to describe the relationship between
seroreactivity to T. cruzi and the
frequency of fetal loss. Partícipants were
residents of an endemic área of Chagas'
disease in Bahia, Brazil. Seronegative
women presented an overall rate of fetal
loss of 93.3 per 1000 pregnancies (gestational
age < 6 months) while seropositive
women presented a rate of 105.3 per
1000 pregnancies. The age distribution of
the rate of fetal loss revealed that seropositive
women aged 15-24 years presented
a frequency of fetal loss higher than seronegative
women of the same age group.
