Resumo

Chronic kidney disease (CKD ) results in permanent loss of a large part of renal function , resulting , among many other consequences , the appearance of endocrine disorders, some directly related to hormones produced by the kidneys and by hormones regulated by them . Renal secondary hyperparathyroidism (RSH) is a major endocrine disorder that occurs as a complication of CKD due to reduced production of calcitriol by the kidneys and phosphorus retention by renal failure . Prevention of RSH is the proper treatment of CKD itself and aims to prevent the consequences of HSR as fibrous osteodystrophy, known as " rubber jaw " and soft tissue calcification . Deficiencies of calcitriol and erythropoietin are also important endocrinopathies caused by CKD and need to be properly diagnosed and appropriate in order to prevent early mortality of patients treatment.
