Resumo

The post-Military Dictatorship democratization process that instituted the so-called New Republic did not abolish, but only reformed the bourgeois autocracy, because it kept “updated” within the democratic institutionalism authoritarian and fascist elements inherited from the previous period. Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, the application of neoliberalism imposed new limitations on this already restricted democracy, related to the annulment of democratic controls on the movement of capital, the so-called “neoliberal reforms”. However, despite the limited character of democracy in force in the country, from 2011 begins a repressive and authoritarian escalation that begins with a growing criminalization of social movements and intensification of polítical repression, unfolds in a coup d'état in 2016 and advances with the deepening of the neoliberal program and with polítical and legal modifications that suggest the transition to a new polítical institution is underway, strengthening the authoritarian and fascist elements of the bourgeois autocracy to the detriment of democratic elements, putting the New Republic in crisis.
