Resumo
The article, based upon a theoretical research and presented as
an essay, aims at interpreting Brazilian contemporary context, under
which democracy and constitutionalism wither away. Firstly, a theoretical
review is accomplished, in order to define the category neo-liberalism, as
well as to justify its adoption to depict Brazilian reality. The Brazilian social
and institutional crisis is then assessed with some remarks on the
institutional rupture that took place in 2016, the New Fiscal Regime and
the lack of electoral integrity of the presidential race in 2018. The scientific
contribution that is expected to be presented is the identification of
Brazilian´s context as a paradigmatic case of the phenomenon described
by Melinda Cooper as an encounter between neo-liberalism and new
social conservatism.
