Resumo
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the pancreatitis by ultrasound, showing the difference between light and chronic pancreatitis and the importance
of this diagnostic method in this pathology. METHODS: the survey major databases were PubMed / MedLine / VHL and books
on this subject. RESULTS: Ultrasound is an important diagnostic method in the evaluation and differentiation of mild and severe acute
pancreatitis and also chronic pancreatitis. It can identify abnormalities in the majority of patients with acute pancreatitis and allows the
monitoring of those with small peripancreatic fluid collections. CONCLUSIONS: To differentiate the degrees of pancreatitis by ultrasound,
it is important to have notion of embryology and anatomy that shows the pancreas’ relationship with other organs and also other
methods of diagnostic imaging, such as X ray, CT and MRI of the abdomen, cholangiography and endoscopic cholangiopancreatography.
