The cultivation areas of sugar cane in the state of Goiás are concentrated in the south region, especially in the southwest micro-regions; Quirinópolis, Meia Ponte and Vale do Rio dos Bois. In the process of expansion of sugar cane highlight the importance of the Federal Policies, among them the National Alcohol Program - Brazilian Alcohol Program (started in 1975) and the National Agro-Energy Plan - NAP (2006-11), and this last one, an important expansion, concentrated in time and space. In the south region of Goiás, the planted area increased from 362,265.21 ha in 2001, related to the cultivation period of the Brazilian Alcohol Program, to 740,275.74 ha in 2011, an increase of approximately 104% relative to the encouragement of expansion promoted by the NAP. Called the attention to the fact that this expansion are for preferred replacing seeds areas and secondarily the pasture areas, on soils with high agricultural potential for highly technified growing.
