Resumo
This work analyzes the representation of two federal deputies in traditional media, contrasting it
with the representations they make of themselves on the social network Instagram. The research
addresses how these traditional media representations can influence public perception of women in
politics. And, by also investigating the activities of female deputies on Instagram, the study
examines how they use this platform to communicate, build images and engage the electorate,
often challenging the way traditional media represents them. The focus is on the visibility and
narrative built around female deputies on both platforms, considering the impact of these
representations on public perception and the construction of their political images. By investigating
these dynamics, the study seeks to offer insights into how women in politics are portrayed in
different media contexts and how these representations can influence the participation and social
acceptance of female federal deputies by reifying or deconstructing gender stereotypes. The study
methodology is qualitative research, in which empirical data (reports and posts) collected in
newspapers and on Instagram were analyzed in light of theories that relate gender, media and
representation, combined with intersectionality and transfeminism. The conclusion of the work is
that there is a notable disparity in the way these women politicians are portrayed in the two media,
in the construction of their self-image (Instagram) the deputies are able to give new meaning to
their images and transform narratives that are often conveyed in a biased way in traditional
newspapers that end up reproducing stereotypes.
