In this paper I attempt to show why the role of flux in Theaetetus 151-160 is exclusively explanatory. I show that Plato uses material from Heraclitus’ flux (H) in order to create for Protagoras (P) the best available argument which can grant infallibility. In the first part of the paper I discuss, briefly, some controversies about two problems: how Plato is establishing the connections among the three theses and how he understands flux. In the second part I propose an analysis of 152a-c. On section III I give an explanation of 152c-157c, from the perspective of some passages that, in my view, are sufficient for to get the core meaning of flux in the Secret Doctrine and, in the final section (IV), I briefly resume the substantial virtues and defects of Plato’s argument for Protagoras.pt_BR
