Diagnóstico ultrassonografico da endometriose pelvica

Resumo

The pelvic endometriosis is a disease that affects around 10% to 15% of women of reproductive age, causing pelvic pain and discomfort and is associated with infertility. The diagnosis often is difficult with only clinical examination, for the general physical examination is rather plain and clinical manifestations are not always present, because several of the patients may be asymptomatic. The ultrasound evaluation of the pelvis is the initial method of choice for identification of pelvic endometriosis. The transabdominal ultrasound is used to exploit the whole pelvis, followed by transvaginal ultrasound for a more detailed assessment of the anatomical structures near the endovaginal probe. The sensitivity of ultrasonography in the diagnosis of endometriosis is 96 although the specificity is 97. From the trace promoted by ultrasound the doctor can examine the need for other examinations such as CT, MRI and laparoscopy, and to identify the ideal treatment for clinical improvement and prevent possible surgical complications.
