Resumo

This article seeks to analyze how borders are worked allegorically in the novel Sombras de Reis Barbudos, by José J. Veiga (2017), with a view to an interdisciplinary analysis that reveals the elements existing in the narrative that denote this space of exchanges and connections. To this end, we will work on two main concepts, namely dialogism (Bakhtin, 1993, 2011) and intertextuality (Kristeva, 2005), interfacing with other contributions from related areas, such as philosophy, geography, narrative and the imaginary. Our proposal aims to understand how border zones are prominently important in Veiga's work and his symbolic constructions when he creates a dystopian story in which isolation is a tool for maintaining power. In his literature, one can identify this emphasis almost as a denunciation, reworking reality in a world in which absurdity, violence and exclusion take effect.
