Resumo

Although there were already devices that acquired and transmitted information before 1999, it was that year that Kevin Ashton used the expression “Internet of things” to describe a system composed of sensors and / or actuators that is connected to the internet. In 2018 Forbes magazine reported the results of a study of 700 executives from different companies. According to the data obtained, 53% of telecommunications companies use IoT in their processes or in their business areas. Also according to this study, 47% of energy companies (generation / distribution) use IoT in business areas or are being implemented. With the popularization of IoT in the industrial world, the demand for integrating these devices with the already consolidated Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems is also increasing. With the advent of Industry 4.0, the acquisition and real-time availability of more information about a production line has become critical.
