Abstract

This article proposes a reflection over the link made between Marechal Cândido Rondon’s workers and literacy. The workers mentioned are EJA students from the city listed above,. The dialogue among researcher and surveyed was possible through research methodology with oral narratives from 2002 to 2003. These workers are, in general, either employed or informal workers that had migrated to Marechal Cândido Rondon between the 1990s and 2000s. The aim of this survey was to understand how they comprehended their work and the urban life before their poor mastery of written language, and their strategies to surpass their daily difficulties.
