Abstract

The present work looked for to understand the existent relationship among the romance Lucíola of José de Alencar written in the middle of the century XIX and the con- troversy settled years before with the presentation of the play “As Asas de um Anjo”, that seemingly “shocked” the carioca society for playing in the subject of the prostitution with size realism that ended for being censured.
