Resumo

This article aims to discuss how the theoretical concepts of social representations and public opinion and the new social implications resultant of those new universe of knowledge. The concepts of social representations liken to concepts of public opinion while in social representations the thought represents a practical knowledge, in the context of public opinion this knowledge consummates and operates in mass communication media leading the thought and opinions in the same direction. The article also approaches the psychology on public opinion formation, and the desconstruction of the idea that public opinion is a synonym of mass opinion.
